History of Acme Oyster House

In 1910, work began on what would become Acme Oyster House, then known as Acme Café. When the initial location opened at 724 Iberville, the name was changed to Acme Oyster House when the café was destroyed in a fire. The first store is still operating for the time being.

They altered their logo, and Poets’ Corner was born from the restaurant’s popularity. It was in London and paid tribute to everyone who had worked at Acme’s bar.

Acme eventually expanded to include Poets’ Corner, and as the city’s tourism industry flourished in the 1990s, more and more diners began making their way there.

In 2005, Hurricane Katrina disrupted operations at one of their stores. Despite the hurricane’s effects, they persisted in their mission to serve their community and even opened a second location in Baton Rouge.

Even though the Covid-19 outbreak had a negative effect on their business, they continued to open new outlets, and things have been going swimmingly for them ever since.
