History
Bill Braum’s father, Henry H. Braum, bought a butter processing firm in Emporia, Kansas in 1933, and Bill soon joined the family business. By 1957, the company had established a distribution network of its own, calling its outlets “Peter Pan Ice Cream Stores.” Bill and his wife Mary bought the company from Bill’s dad that year, and they’ve been building on its success ever since.
Bill and Mary Braum bought the “Peter Pan” chain in 1958 and ran it for ten years before selling it and opening their own Braum’s restaurants in 1968. They were so successful in their first year that they opened 24 locations. If you want anything properly prepared, Braum’s encourages you to do it yourself. Because of this, they are able to fully integrate the supply chain. From the cow to the cone in your hand, this company handles it all.
The Braum family farm is a 10,000-acre plot of land in Tuttle, Oklahoma. This is the primary farm out of a collection that totals over 40k acres. The farm has its own herd of dairy cows, milking parlour, processing facility, bakery, truck fleet, and repair garage. They are able to ensure that their dairy herd does not get any growth hormones or antibiotics because the vast bulk of the feed is produced on their own farm.
Braum’s continued success can be attributed to their rigorous attention to quality at every stage of production. Their items are always fresh because all of their outlets are located within 300 miles of their family farm. Braum’s, a chain with over 300 locations and nearly 50 years in business, is still going strong, serving up farm-to-table fare for the whole family.
